Stroke (right side) and paralysis (left side)

The doctor says that left side paralysis is caused by hemiplegia in right half of the brain. Which remedy should then be used to treat the right hemiplegia and left paralysis

Hi Faisal,

He is already on Causticum, but on 2 pills 30D twice a day since two weeks ago. Yes, has improved little bit: little bit better on paralysis, mind, and his spastic back. Let me explain the background, he was eating Arnica, Rhus tox and Ruta grav (1 pills twice a day) for his osteoarthritis on advice of a homeopathic practioner. According to some replies from e.g. London Homeopathic Hospital he takes all remedies in 30D, which will not interfer with his warfarin and low pressure medication. Besides, the Causticum, the local practioner prescibed Nux vomica and Baryta carbonicum as well. Before the stroke he probably a Lycopodium constitution, so I continued on my own 1 pill of this remedy in 30D, then the mind was as before the stroke. But quiting the Lycopodium after using the Nux vomica and Baryta carbonicum, he became more like dizzy, relaxed and isolated, even his personlity is there. But it seems the Causticum is a antidote to Lycopodium. Is it adviceable to take Arnica, Causticum, Baryta carbonicum, Rhus tox, Ruta grav and Nux vomica at the same time? I mean his constitution seem to be Lycopodium (but right side to left side remedy) and Arnica is good for recovery from Stroke (heart, tissue and nerve repair) and arthritis and Causticum good for paralysis, spastic symptoms and ostearthritis, although his physical improved last two weeks. In addition, the medical doctor do not see him as medical ill anymore (well, this in Sweden). Finally, he is 81 years non-smoking, did not drank alcohol, thin, no dementia, physical active, drove car, social, kind and friendly.

Hoping for reply!

Dear Faisal,

An addition, the doctor said the cause to the stroke was atrial fibrillation. Are the any remedy, which my father can use for it? To help to prevent a recurrent stroke or strengthen/normalize his heart (after the your suggested period of free from homeopathic remedies)?

Thanks for your reply.

troja last decade
Hi Troja, hello dr.Faisal,

I just want to understand how atrial fibrillation in his heart caused stroke in his brain. First time I hear about that. Do you know more?

Astra2012 last decade
Astra

Read this.

Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is a cardiac arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm) that involves the two upper chambers (atria) of the heart. It is the most common arrhythmia; risk increases with age, with 8% of people over 80 having AF. In atrial fibrillation, the electrical impulses that are normally generated by the sinoatrial node are replaced by disorganized activity in the atria, leading to irregular conduction of impulses to the ventricles that generate the heartbeat. The result is an irregular heartbeat. This may be continuous (persistent or permanent AF) or alternating between periods of a normal heart rhythm (paroxysmal AF).

Atrial fibrillation is often asymptomatic, but may result in symptoms of palpitations, fainting, chest pain, or even heart failure. It is also a leading cause of stroke as the erratic motion of the atria leads to blood stagnation which increases the risk of blood clots that may travel from the heart to the brain and other areas.

Thanks Murthy (really, do you have ALL the answers?!)
They make it sound as if the blood just stood there still and clotted...
(it 's all there in black and white but I still find it hard to believe...)

In such case though what is the cause of his symptoms (left side paralysis): blood clot (stroke) or AF?

This is an excellent case of: which symptoms one needs to find the remedy. All?

Astra2012 last decade
So, since i don't believe his blood clot resulted from AF (no matter what Wikipedia + drs say), I would see it as two 'symptoms' (both related to circulatory system though, not nervous) but then you have the real, visible, symptom of paralysis.

And although the clot is on the right- you see left sided symptom-- so would you look in left or right sde remedies?

(now i think that maybe we should rather discuss that via PM--let me know if you use it, I'm rarely there).

Astra2012 last decade
According to the Doctors at our hospital Atrial fibrillation is a cardiac arrhythmia (that involves the two upper chambers (atria) of the heart. Due to this the blood can stand still too long in the chamber/chambers, and a blood clot will be formed. This clot will be transported through the veins somewhere in the body, for example, the brain. By this, a damage of the brain tissue will occure and since the nerves crosses in the head, the brain damage on the right side will affect the left side of the body such as paralysis. Depending on where in the brain the damage occured, certain areas of the body or mind (e.g. feeling, speach, memory, incontinence)will be affected. So should I give my father a remedy, which is for the right half of the brain to treat left side paralysis or should treat the left side paralysis (arm, leg) or is sort 'included' in the remedy a treatment of right sided brain damage and left side damage?

troja last decade
I understand drs reasoning - but not everyone with AF has clots, and not everyone with clots has AF .

Homeopathic treatment is not just taking potentized remedies - it is also taking them according to homeopathic principles.

He should be taking only one remedy at a time, which covers his symptoms.
That's why dr. Faisal recommends stoping the remedies and assessing the case anew to come up with one remedy.

Hi Astra

These issues are too complicated for me as on now.
May be, after another two years, I may be able to handle these.

Remember how hesitantly I entered the prescribing arena?

I should thank our earlier colleagues for taunting me to take up cases, instead of giving lectures alone. Without their incessant prodding, I wouldn't have ventured into prescribing on forums.

I still believe there are only a few cases which can be presribed via these forums.

I don't prescribe unless I am sure that there are enoguh indications for a remedy.

Now I am confident with acutes and some types of chronic problems.

Let me see how it goes in the next two years.

However I can sense a bad prescription ,if one is given, even for cases I am hesitant to handle, and will intervene with my objections based on homeopathic philosophy.

We should prevent harm, even if we can't help. That is my motto. :-)

ok, Murthy, I understand your point. (don't be surprised though if after two years I will start it again).

Troja: before the stroke did he have ecg? what was his blood pressure then?now?

is he taking any blood thinners? bp med.?

Astra2012 last decade
Hi Astra,

The only I know about his blood pressure was extremely high before the stroke and its normal now. But I asked the doctor today: in his case it has been established it was the high bp caused the stroke, not the af and the af those not be treated. The Causticum seem working, since started to bend the back forward, which he was unable before. Everytime he takes arnica always affecting his mind, throat, pain (osteoarthritis) positively. When he took Baryta Carbonicum, he said it was kind of an electric impulse through the left side through the body including arm, leg, shoulder and face. But most release of the back stiffness came during the the last 4 days, which he has taken for 4 days. I am not sure about effects of Ruta grav and Rhus tox.
During last months different practioners given different opinions about how often (30D only once, once a week twice a day), duration (1 time to several month), amount (1-3 pills each time), combinations (e.g. Reckeweg, William BOERICKE, which suggest complementary remedies (blank">http://www.homeoint.org/books/boericmm/r.htm), antidotes (does not matter or matters). So really feel it is difficult to know which has right and what will give less harm.

Bye!

PS. It seems that homeopatic remedy does not affecting the results of warfarin INR blood tests, since my father has done daily for 4 weeks and later once a week.

Thanks for the info.
I knew it couldn't be af.

I'm not saying anything against remedies he is taking-all I'm saying that giving so many of remedies, each for some symptom, is not a classical homeopathy as taught by Hahnemann.

(btw he has clot in right brain hemisphere but it is left side hemipledgia=paralysis)

since he takes some medication the one dose/watch & wait method doesn't make sense.

Astra2012 last decade
i still do not get it: why the clot if his stroke was caused by high bp as they say?

in that case shouldn't it be rather a hemorrhagic stroke?

Astra2012 last decade
I am also confused, since the different doctors have given different opinions from the beginning. First it was blood clot caused by af, later it was said a blood clot, another due to af. Latest is that the af is not serious and does not be treated. I do not have any higher medical education at all, but I have read the the high bp can cause stroke because of weak artiers. One thing they do not really know. But, here in Sweden, we have debates about the medical quality due to gender, age, nationality, income, etc. My father was only low paid garderner and now he is 81 years, sometimes I think is one of the reason. Like today, a nurse said they have treated his osteoarthritis. And this is with one of most common painkillers (parcemetol) in the world. I asked her: 'Do you think painkiller pills will repair joints?'

troja last decade
Addition:

Somewhere, I do not remember, I read severe arthritis can cause paralysis and even stroke ?!!!!

troja last decade
You have to ask drs about that: what caused his blood clot?

(It's a good thing to read about that first and appear knowledgable. Also read about CoQ10 and hawthorne-both good for heart ) and about TURMERIC (for arthritis)

As to homeopathy: follow dr.Faisal advices

Dear astra, i am thinking about snake poison that will help to desolve his boold clot.
(Spigelia, Lachesis, Noja, Arnica ) think about it and please let me know OK

thanks

faisal qureshi last decade
Hi Faisal (let's drop titles then)
I guess we posted at the same time - your other post was not here when I posted.
Anyway, if you are aa baby homeopath then you are a senior baby homeopath!

There are many remedies (like e g Lachesis, I sincerely do not remember more but snake venoms have this special affinity to blood) that would cover all his symptoms. But he is overmedicated now, with hom.rem. too, gets unchanged potency for a long time so he may prove that remedy=get its symptoms! Your advice to stop hom.rem. for a week and then take his case was very good imo. I will check the remedies you mentioned.

(Troja- did you talk to drs?)
