Light tan spots on 2 year-old

Hello. My 2 year-old son began developing very faint cafe au lait-colored spots on his body when he was a month or so old. He has six, all confined to his shoulders, cheek, forehead and armpit. They are not raised and do not bother him. The largest is no larger than 5mm.

Their appearance does not bother me, but I am curious as to what they may be. Our pediatrician did not offer any clues. Does homeopathy see these spots as a sign of a brewing imbalance that we would be well-served to address now, or are they purely cosmetic? He is an extremely robust and healthy boy who has only been sick once in these two years, and that was, I suspect, a food-related 'bug.'

My husband has one or two similar spots and I have recently developed darker ones on my legs--although I suspect mine may be from sun damage and age, as they are slightly raised and darker.

Thank you for your help!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I don't have any help for you, but I'll be keeping an eye on this post. My toddler has the same (or at least they sound like they are) spots on a few places on his body and I have a pretty large one on my right hand, butit's so faint that I forget it's there and also on my feet, also faint.

I read a book eons ago on hypnotherapy and some research done and they had interesting results when they consulted people with birth marks. They discovered that every single birthmark on a person's body was directly related to the way they died in a past life. The lighter, smaller, the mark the more distant the life and vice-versa. I wish I could remember the name of the book, but right now I have the foggies. :) It would be interesting to hear the homeopathic theory on birthmarks and see if relates...
