The ABC Homeopathy Forum
Potency Education
Hello Dr Madhavan,I have already gone through a lot of posts and I am totally confused about homeopathic potency..
My question is:
1) IS there a difference in how the potency is interpreted in North America versus India
The reason of my question is here in N America, my naturopath says that medicine with potency of 6 is more stronger than 30
whereas an Indian homeopath says that potency of 30 is more strong than 6.. This is in regards to Hepar sulphur..
2) What does DH or X or C or CH mean at the end of the medicine..
Thanks in advance for your reply

Hi David
Please find the answers to your question as follows:
1) Is there a difference in how the potency is interpreted in North America versus India? The reason of my question is here in N America, my naturopath says that medicine with potency of 6 is more stronger than 30 whereas an Indian homeopath says that potency of 30 is more strong than 6. This is in regards to Hepar sulphur.
Ans: No, there is no difference in interpretation of potency amongst homeopaths. The difference appears because of the interpretation of the meaning of the term stronger.
A 6c has a very little amount of the original substance while a 30c has hardly any. So, if someone interprets a potency in terms of the amount of medicinal substance present in the solution, which in fact would be absurd if one ponders a little on the essence of potency method, then 6c will turn out to be stronger than the 30c.
However, in terms of action, as we go higher up the potency, the remedies tend to act longer, more powerfully and more deeply. Thus, if one considers the action of the potencied remedy, a 30c will definitely be stronger than a 6c.
2) What does DH or X or C or CH mean at the end of the medicine.
Ans: DH, D and X represent the Decimal Scale while C and CH represent the Centesimal Scale of potency. We have three scales of potency in Homeopathic Pharmaceutical Methods, the Decimal, the Centesimal and the Fifty Millesimal.
Best regards
Niel
