Problems with swallowing

problem started 1 1/2 years ago
doesn't happen all the time
can't swallow pills or food when it happens.
sometimes getting up and moving around makes the food or pills go down.
Unable to drink while having problem
tried drinking first,sometimes works.
Main problem-phlegm suddenly there.
creates anxiety
sometimes the only way to get relief is to throw up.
Once the items go down or are thrown up with phlegm, problem rarely flares up during the rest of the meal or ingestion of the pills
tries herbs that were suggested
We have found homeopathic remedies are usually more effective.
please help

Thanks for your info about asafoetida. My husband has found that when he starts to have the problem, which is very seldom any more, he follows the recommendations and the problem is gone. This has helped my best friend also. Thanks again.
