Scalp Sores From Salon Foil Highlighting
i feel like a complete idiot, but it's done so i can only try to address the problem. short version:i went for a haircut last week. while i was there i was told they had a special on colour, and since i've been wanting to even out my grey (i like my grey) i agreed to some highlighting. by the time i had any idea of what that involved, it was too late, so i crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. the outcome was ok (and so far none of my hair has fallen out, knock on wood!), but now i've got small sores on parts of my scalp (on crown on approximpately an area the size of my palm).
these sores are VERY itchy when they scab (worse for scratching), tend to weep slightly (clear fluid) and then form granules before scabbing up again.
i'm very leary about washing til i figure out what to do about this. i'm sure it can be dealt with homeopathically, but i have no idea where to even begin; none of my search parametres are providing answers, so i really hope someone can suggest something!

I am not a homeopath, but just wanted to ask you what the colourist said to you when you told him/her about your scalp reaction? They are supposed to do a skin test first to be sure that your scalp will not have an adverse reaction to the chemicals used.

no, i've never had psoriasis, i just have sensitive skin. it's still kind of strange, thought, because i've had other things done with my hair and it hasn't bothered me. i guess it was just a reaction waiting to happen.
yes, we did the skin test, and it didn't wave any red flags, not so much as a tingle.
i called the salon today and will be going in tomorrow to show them what happened. it won't fix anything, but at least it will be on record for future reference.
now i just need to find something that will heal these sores up. not being able to wash my hair isn't too healthy for my scalp either ;-

not like this, no. my skin is very senstive, and i have a lot of allergies to all kinds of things, from fumes to foods, but this particular kind of thing has never happened before. there are a lot of commonly-used household products (dish soap, window cleaner, and so on) i have to be sure to avoid getting on my skin, but i've never had problems on the very rare occasions when chemicals have been used on my hair. i don't go very often (maybe twice a year, usually just for a haircut), but i always go to the same salon because they're really good about using the most chemically low-impact products available due to my sensitivities to fumes. my guess is that either this particular product contained something a bit more potent than what i'm used to, or that i've developed a new allergy. it's strange that the skin test didn't show any irritation, but my scalp was affected to this degree.
maybe it was the combination of foil and the product. (whatever it was, i won't be doing that again!)

Ok that is good to hear. A lot of acute presentations will cure themselves if left alone. I am glad it did so.

we're trying to find a remedy for that. i don't normally get 'eruptions' of any kind; it's a simple case of hyper-sensitivity which causes pain, itching, superficial cracking and tenderness (on my fingertips mostly) with every change of season, occasional redness and sometimes a small raw patch. the oozing sores (not something i've had before) on my scalp are gone but it's still a bit itchy at times. i did take a remedy (cuprum met 30C) for muscle cramp, but i don't know if that would have had any effect on this problem. (i don't know if that remedy is used often for muscle cramp, but it works a treat for me)
whatever the reason, it's gone, and i'm grateful it didn't get worse or turn into something chronic.
btw, there's something i've been puzzling over for nearly 30 years: i had to have my youngest child by c-section (due more to gross mismanagement IMO than a genuine emergency) and about 4 days later i discovered several large pimples on or near my ankles. they were gone a couple of days later, but i've always wondered how they got there in the first place. do you know if that might have been a reaction to the anaesthetic? i can't think what else it could be, but no one's been able to answer that question and it's bugging me :-)
