Itchy throat and plugged ear

Okay here goes, I'm 31 years old, have two kids, and I want a constitutional medicine, mainly for my allergies and ear.
Throughout childhood i rarely got sick, but had ongoing allergies- sneezing (ALOT), itchy watery eyes, mainly in the morning, and would occasionally last until evening. Never at night.
Legs aches were common especially on the feet.
Slept on my side, always rubbing my feet together. Loved to sleep- and slept well, altho a light sleeper.

When i delivered my 2 kids- i hemorrhaged- both times. After the second birth, i trembled a lot, almost fainted.

Now- this is the current status- still get leg aches, mainly at night. Feel chills at night.

Right ear feels plugged, on and off blocking and unblock. No pain. Started after i got a real bad case of flu with halitosis and went on a series of antibiotics, the ear remained blocked.

The main irritation i have is a scratchy throat- i'm constantly trying to use the back of my tongue to ease the itch. My allergies have now transformed and come at night- around 2-3 am... 10-15 sneezes sometimes, and keeps me awake and restless. Mucus leaks out- clear.

I'm permanently exhausted, i don't sleep well cuz kids keep waking up at night- and i've nursed one for 21 months, got preggers, then nursed the other for 18 months.

My throat itches alot in sleep. Although i feel i would be dehydrated because of all the nursing, i'm generally thirstless.

I'm better outside, in the open air, allergies go away.
I feel cold at night, and like to sleep covered.

My menses seem to come on at night- int he middle of the night- in sleep. It never did that before.
I'm crabby before them, but once it comes, i feel better, relieved.
It's always late tho.

Let me know what you think.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Ok after a long day at clinic here I am to have a look at your case :)

For me to make a prescription I might need to ask quite a few questions. Bear with me. This is a very different process to acute prescribing.

Describe the exact sensation in the legs.

Describe the feeling of the exhaustion.

Describe the feeling of having nursed continously for so long.

Do you know what you are allergic to?

Describe the PMS in a bit more detail - describe 'crabby'.

This is the beginning of a process of looking for clues to a remedy. I get you to expand on things you say in order to see if more clues pop up, or if you confirm hints at a remedy that have already appeared. What you say isn't so important (there are no 'right' answers), I am not looking for you to convince me of a particular remedy, but it is important that you say as much as you can about whatever I ask.

I try to remain open to the possibility that any remedy could be the one you need. Only you possess the information that will lead me there, so my job is to try and coax it out of you, without knowing what or where it is.

Simply hey? :):)

Okay here goes, and thanks for doing this. I was asleep when you messaged last. Here are the answers.

Describe the exact sensation in the legs.
It hurts in the evening, but through the night it's more a need to rub them, i'm not sure if it's restless legs. It starts at the curvature in the foot and kind of travels upwards.

Describe the feeling of the exhaustion.
Well I was always the type of person- very hard working, focused, school Type A personality- lockers neat, school grades high. Always had good sleep- 9:30 - 6:00... when i started working, same- went to bed early and up early. But now, i'm really tired- very difficult to wake up in the morning, restless around the same time my daughter is around that 2ish - 4ish, and go into heavy sleep in the morning. I seem to be getting better sleep in the morning (if i can). By afternoon, when i'm driving, my eyes are shutting, very hard to keep them open around noonish.
I still have the adrenaline every day to continue my tasks tho, and the kids keep me going, but by night, it hits me. Also i'm getting less tolerable to the kids waking up at night. A bit more frustrated.

Describe the feeling of having nursed continously for so long.
Well i'm proud i did it, but so glad it's over. For the first year it was okay, i was able to cope, but by the second year- it was getting very tiring, and she was getting more demanding, esp at night.

Do you know what you are allergic to? No idea. I did those skin tests when i was a kid, and there were a lot of food items. Other than that, i know pollen gets me sneezing.

Describe the PMS in a bit more detail - describe 'crabby'.
Okay before my kids, i used to get the worst cramps- almost labor like. Bending over double, screaming in pain, had heating pads on me, which would give me 30% relief. A few times i threw up while in so much pain. The pain would come as soon as the flow started and last a few hours. Could never stand properly or walk, head would spin while in pain.
Unbearable so a doc had put me on mefanemic acid. Would take one pill to take the pain away. I never really went through 'crabbiness' or sadness or moodiness. Just sweet cravings prior to.
After my first born, no more cramps. At all.
Now- really crabby prior to my period, like i start losing my patience with the kids a lot sooner. Normally i'm quite patient with them. And i get very sleepy the day before.

Had one surgery when i was little- to remove a stye on my left eye.

Oh! ANother chronic problem i get are these cracks in the corners of my mouth. Recently, and they take very long to go away. Bleed, heal, come back.

Ask away. I'll answer whatever i can. Thank you soo sooo so much!!

one more thing- any pain i get- i like heat added to it, whether a back ache, stomach ache, headache.. hot showers. etc.

Two medicines which i've taken have had some effect.
Recently i had another stye, i took puls (a couple of doses) and it went away. But that med gives me crying spells.

I started getting this weird back ache (lower lumbar region) at night, around that 2 am, severe, i had to walk around to get the pain out. And then thru the day, my back was fine. I took a dose of kali carb 30 ( i got an aggravation the next day- stiff neck), and the pain in my back reduced. I took the med when the pain returned, had another aggravation- headaches. But the pain doesn't seem to come much now, and if it does, very mildly. I never liked taking that med tho, made me even more crabbier! ha..

How do you feel on waking in the morning?

Do your menses only come at night now?

How do you feel about your own needs and wants in regards to caring for your children?

Do you get any menstrual pain and what is it like? What do you do to relieve it? What is the flow like? Do you get any other symptoms with your menses?

Do you suffer from anxiety in any form?

Do you have any fears or phobias?

Give me an idea of what you were like as a child.

How do you feel on waking in the morning?
I used to be a morning person. Would get up early to study. Now- i'm more tired, wanna climb back into bed. Just sleepy. But not irritable usually unless i've had a really bad night.

Do your menses only come at night now? It begins in the night- around 4-5 am. But once the flow starts, it continues on thru the day as well. A lot lighter that it used to be. I used to have a heavy flow.

How do you feel about your own needs and wants in regards to caring for your children?

I love caring for them. And will do whatever i can to make them healthy- ie- breastfeed for as long as i could handle, prevent giving them antibiotics as much as i can. Spend hours searching for the best schools. Make them healthy food to eat, make them happy.. give them treats when they've behaved well. I'm patient with them and try my level best to be a good mom. At the same time, i get annoyed that i don't have time to do things i once loved- go to the gym, work.. sometimes i do feel trapped at home catering to them. And i think that's mainly the source of my crabbiness when it comes. I do have an ambition to go back to school, but i'm waiting for them to be full time students themselves.

Do you get any menstrual pain and what is it like? What do you do to relieve it? What is the flow like? Do you get any other symptoms with your menses?
Now, i barely get pain. IF any, it's a back ache that comes a week prior to. Lower back ache, comes in sleep. If it's cramps, it's very light pain, and i sleep on my tummy to relieve it. Once i wake up and the flow has already started, the pain is not there.
The flow- no clots. Light flow- A little heavier the first 2 days, then very light until 6th day.
I get thirsty for water the day before.

Do you suffer from anxiety in any form?
In university i did, prior to an exam. Heart pounding, sweaty palms.

Some amount of anxiety comes when I'm alone... i don't like to be alone.

Do you have any fears or phobias?
Fears of being alone. I guess i've always had that fear- that is why the need to study, to work hard, to be independent- *just in case*....

Give me an idea of what you were like as a child.
Oddly enough, i was a loner! Introvert, played on my own, quiet, worked hard, had one close friend. Aimed to please.
As a teen, more social, had a few good/close friends... more social as i grew older.
Always been happy in general. Loved to laugh. Nothing really got me down. My emotions were always levelled.

It was after i had my first born, that i noticed my emotions go all over the place. I had a hard time nursing, milk supply was low, and he was not latching. My parents couldn't come for his birth, so i went through a crisis at that time. It took me 2 months to finally establish nursing!
I think with the challenges faced with parenting, my emotions have been going up and down.
After weaning, i've been in a better frame of mind.

I forgot to mention, as a teen i suffered from anal fissures.. lots of pain and lots of bleeding.
I haven't gotten that in a long while now.

And something else i don't like is the sight of blood. I don't like seeing a lot of it, esp if it's coming out of me! Nothing physical happens, i just get anxious about it.

karinamom last decade
One more thing.. physical attributes:
hair and skin (on face) towards oily.
Skin: was clear up until i was in my 20's where i started breaking out in my cheeks with few, but big pimples that left dark color scars when they healed. It reduced drastically after my first born.
Now occasionally i'll get one or two, and they hurt and itch.

i hope you haven't scratched off my case as being too complicated... if there's any other info i can give that would help, let me know..

thanks,
karina

Nope still looking over it.

Not complicated no, but I am looking for those peculiar things that direct us to remedies.

Your menses appearing during sleep is very peculiar and leads to one specific remedy , but I am trying to understand if that same remedy will suit the rest of your case.

Can you describe the challenge faced with parenting?

Can you describe more on 'emotions going up and down'? Compare this to 'emotions were always levelled'.

What was the crisis when your son was born?

Describe the experience of being alone - what situation would be enough to stir up the anxiety?

Do you still get the heart pounding anxiety before anything?

If someone had a good reason to be exhausted like you are, who would that person be, what would be their situation?

Can you describe the challenge faced with parenting?

I think mainly the sleep issue... i haven't had a night's sleep since i had my son- 4 years ago. Anything else during the day that arises i deal with it. But the night sleep (not getting it) has really affected me.

Can you describe more on 'emotions going up and down'? Compare this to 'emotions were always levelled'.

During a teen and child, i never really cried much, or had any issues at all actually. I have good memories, did well in school, had good friends, was involved in a lot of activities in school, and was able to cope and manage my life.
Now, i get frustrated a bit more, esp if things are not done a certain way. For example, if there's a dinner out and the kids get away from their routine, and because of that sleep later, and thereby wake up more, i get annoyed. I think it all revolves around their sleep. The night they sleep better, i feel more *normal* if that makes any sense.
I've done it where both kids have fallen sick, and i'm the only one taking care of them cuz husband has been out of town, i've gone a stretch of 3 nights and a total of 2 hours of sleep in that span of time. Had a total meltdown and just sat down crying.

What was the crisis when your son was born?
Well, my pregnancy was fantastic. I had a relatively easy one. My delivery a little more complicated. When he came out, i tore but the tear wasn't normal. I didn't know the degree at that time, but i couldn't separate my legs for weeks. There were shooting/shock like pains travelling down my thighs. I later found out there was a tear in my muscle that caused that, and it was left unstitched. So i couldn't just get up and take care of him, i was in so much pain. Yet parents weren't around, and husband went to work the next day he was born, so i felt very alone in the struggles of nursing. He wasn't latching, wailing every time i tried, and there was no milk... so i had to take homeopathy to stir up the milk, and really keep trying to nurse with a tube, etc.... really trying hard to succeed. After 2 months of that, and after recuperating, things settled more.
BUt there was a lot of tears at that time including a feeling that i had a child when i wasn't 'ready' to be a mom, or knew enough.

Describe the experience of being alone - what situation would be enough to stir up the anxiety?

Just being alone in a home, is something i don't like. But extreme anxiety- no... i'll just end up watching tv, or distracting myself from *being alone*

Do you still get the heart pounding anxiety before anything?
No not really.

If someone had a good reason to be exhausted like you are, who would that person be, what would be their situation?

Another mom without any sleep. haha.

Haha yes well that last answer doesn't help me too much :)

I am getting more of an idea but I am late for an appointment this morning. I will get back on it later.

Ok Karina I want you to take the remedy Cocculus, preferably as a 30c potency. Just take a single dose, 2 hits, 1 drop in 1/2 cup of water, stir thoroughly and take teaspoon. Let me know how that goes.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
i have cocculus 200c in pellets. I can get the 30 tomorrow, but it will be in pellets as well. Will that do?
Thanks sooo much!
karina

karinamom last decade
Just take what you have. Make sure you take the dose the same way I have described for your children.

Have you used that remedy before?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
so just one pellet of the 200c?
yes i took it once before, homeopath said it would help with the exhaustion of nursing, but i took just one dose (i was told to take it one dose daily at night). i didn't end up taking it religiously, just one dose- cannot remember if i had any effect. WIll take it tonight before bed.

I forgot to mention i get headaches often, and recently more so. When i get a headache there is nothing that relieves it, i could fall asleep, etc, nothing makes it go away unless i take a pain reliever (tylenol). If i sleep, i'll wake up with a worse headache. It's never one sided, just on the head, and i can numb the pain for few seconds if i add pressure to it. If i don't do anything about it and bare the pain, i start feeling nauseated. I've had these headaches on and off since i turned 12.
Car rides and airplane rides make me nauseated, not desperately sick.. or throwing up, just slightly a sick feeling in the pit of my tummy. Nothing extreme. Like i can't read while in the car or plane.

Uhm i thought about this stuff today so thought it would confirm the remedy you have in mind. Will take the coc 200c one pellet in water tonight.

Thanks so much
karina

karinamom last decade
make sure you put the pellet in water - actually a bottle with a lid would be better. It must be taken as a water dose not dry.

I would prefer a bottle so that you can succuss the dose before taking it, to make it more effective.

Again another homoeopath has beaten me to the punch on the prescription - it often happens here that I cover old ground, which I suppose at least shows some consistency in what we are seeing.

There are two remedies that otherwise come up - Mag-carb has the unusual menstrual symptoms, and Mur-ac is very similar to Cocculus in the exhaustion from caring for children (or exhaustion from being a mother).

Cocculus as you might know is very sensitive to travelling in vehicles.

does coffee affect a medicine if you drink it prior to taking a med? I didn't end up taking the med cuz i realized i had a cup of coffee earlier in the evening. let me know if i can take it in the morning.

karinamom last decade
ok so wait i got confused, you mentioned two other remedies... which one do you still suggest, the cocculus?
i don't have the other two...

karina

karinamom last decade
Cocculus is my first choice - the other two are other ideas I have - whether they become necessary depends on the reaction to cocculus.

Make sure your mouth is clean before taking a remedy - allow 10-15 mins before taking it if you have had a coffee. The coffee itself will not antidote so you don't need to worry about that.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
okay i just woke up so will take the medicine now. had a rough night myself- a lot of sneezing. glad to know coffee doesn't antidote this med
thanks soooo much
karina

ok... i took the medicine this morning... i haven't notice anything, except that i'm getting a cough? not sure... been coughing this evening.. not sure if it's related or not...

Just so you understand the typical timeline for treatment of a long-term problem...

Aggravation usually occurs within the first 3 days.

Aggravation usually peaks at 3-5 days.

Improvement begins to become noticeable after the 6th-7th day.

The second week things become easier.

Third week improvement tends to stabilize and the next step can be discussed.

Every person however is an individual and this timeline can be longer or shorter, but not usually by much.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
so this is an aggravation from the medicine.. how do i know it's an aggravation or coincidence? and i ride it out? and it peaks 3-5 days? that doesn't sound good... but okaaay

karinamom last decade
Aggravation is a worsening of current symptms or an reappearance of an old symptom. Aggravation is part of the curative process, which we try to keep to a minimum but it is unavoidable to some degree. For some the aggravation is so small it is barely noticeable. For others it is more pronounced.

The degree of aggravation you get depends on several factors, some of which are difficult to predict in a particular patient.

1. Sensitivity to homoeopathy
2. Degree of tissue change in the body.
3. Amount of suppression of symptoms that has taken place (or is still taking place).
4. Size of the dose (amount taken not potency)
5. Potency is too high

Aggravation is usually easy enough to spot as the intensity is a little more than normal, the symptoms cluster together in an unusual way, old symptoms reappear for no reason and without triggers, and the patient may say something feels 'odd' about it.

This happens because the remedy, via the Law of Similars, is actually replacing your natural disease with an artifical one, one that so closely resembles your own that it is difficult to tell them apart. However people can tell that something strange is happening, there may be the occasional new symptom, or they don't quite feel themselves. Because this artifical disease is short-lived, and because two things that are the same cannot occupy the same space at the same time, when it is over your natural disease is better - it has been 'forced out' of the places it was before.

Don't worry about it - aggravation is usually a good sign, and will be followed by improvement.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
sounds good. Will keep you posted... During an aggravation, do other symptoms that were occurring disappear? or do they remain? or it's different for each individual
