Horse with Throat and Sheath Swelling
3 Days ago, my horse presented with very large hives over most of his body.In the past 2 days, his sheath has swelled to about 3 times its normal size and he has occasional problems with eating, drinking, swallowing and breathing.
I called the vet out and of course they prescribed steroids. Also said he had some swelling in his trachea.
He seems increasingly uncomfortable and still itchy, though his sheath is now painful to the touch.
I am beside myself with worry, as someone said their horse had a similar tale and had to be humanely euthanized just one month later due to congestive heart failure.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.
