Kidney Stones in Pregnant Girl
Greetings - I've been trying to help my cousin who is pregnant and suffering from kidney stones (confirmed by ultrasound). Here are the symptoms:
1. Aching pain on right side extending from lower ribs to back AND down to just above right hip.
2. Pain causes her to double-over
3. Worse in morning and night
4. Worse sitting for extended periods
5. Better standing, walking
6. Craves cold drinks, ice cream
7. Lethargic/tired
8. Anemic
9. No mood changes (not sure what her normal mood is, though)
I have it narrowed down between Colocynthis and Lycopodium. Coloc is perfect for the doubled-over response and right-sided nature; however Lyco is perfect with everything as well but requires someone who craves warm drinks.
I'm thinking Colocynthis since it doesn't contradict her symptoms at all.
I'm also assuming that her symptoms may change with the remedy and may need other remedies as the stones pass. Am I correct? Anyone have experience with treating kidney stones?
ALSO ... two general questions:
1) How do I find out which remedies are safe for pregnancy???
2) if no remedy matches all the symptoms, which symptom takes highest priority (cravings, fears, pain, etc.)?
Thanks in advance!
Josh

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I shall copy a post I have made some years ago on the therapy I have used to help patients:
The remedy I used is Berberis Vulgaris 6c in the Wet dose taken twice daily and this appeared to have dissolved the Calculus which was Calcium Oxalate Crystals in about 3 months as there was only one in a recent Xray which was causing excruciating pain for which his doctor has prescribed 2 tablets Ponstan twice daily which was barely able to control his pain.
I gave him Colocynthis 200c in the dry Lactose Pellets and he took 3 doses each of 6 pellets sublingually in 2 days and reported that he felt excruciating pain in his abdomen which seemed to be moving downwards in the evening of the second day. He had a light dinner and shortly after brought it all up. He could not sleep but went to the toilet in the early hours of the morning where he had fainted with the pain when he was passing urine which was bloody and he had expelled the stone.
He is now fully recovered and does not experience any pain. I have however given him Ciprofloxacin 500 taken twice daily for 4 days to cover any possible infection in the Ureter and the Urethra which can occur due to the laceration in the passages.
Since the patient is pregnant, Colocynthis can pose a problem as it relaxes the body and I cannot predict the effect on the baby.
Berberis V will dissolve the Calculus which can pass down the Ureter even without the patient knowing about it. It is perfectly safe for use during her pregnancy.
Please report progress weekly.
Do not consent to shattering the stone by the Lithotrypter as the LF sound waves can affect the baby.

Joe - thanks so much for your reply. It's good to know what might be expected. I hadn't pursued Berberis because it didn't seem to match her symptoms, even though I know it's supposed to be great for stones. I also don't know that I can get the wet preparation. Any suggestions on where to get that or how to make it? Also, do you think I should do this at the same time as Colocynthis?
I had checked the safety of Coloc. with my homeopath who indicated it was OK. I suggested to my cousin (who is completely new to homeopathy) to try the 30C to help with the pain. My cousin can't afford a full constitutional workup, although I do plan still to report back to the homeopath as well to see if she has any further suggestions.
I truly appreciate your feedback and help! I'll also report back weekly.
Best,
Josh

You can order the remedies from the ABC Store by contacting:
[moderated; email address removed please contact me using the form at http://www.abchomeopathy.com/contact.php Many Thanks, Simon]
You will order
Berberis Vulgaris 6c in the Ethanol pack
Colocynthis 200 in the Dry Pellets.
You will make the Wet dose as per instructions below and the dosage of remedies is as follows:
Berberis V 6c 1 capful twice daily
Colocynthis 200 to be given only when the patient experiences acute pain which will indicate the migration of the Calculus from the Kidney into the Ureter. This may or may not occur as some patients do not even know when the dissolved stone passes peacefully into the bladder and is expelled with the urine which is sometimes bloody. Others have reported losing consciousness with the intense pain when the stone is expelled and is best not thought of in the interest of your pregnant patient.
I shall be following her response with interest when you post her progress.
The Wet dose of any Homeopathic remedy is made as follows:
Order the remedy in the Ethanol pack also referred to as Liquid Dilution in a bottle preferably with a dropper arrangement.
Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from the nearest supermarket.
Pour out about 3cm of water from the bottle to leave some airspace.
Insert 3 drops of the remedy into the bottle and shake the bottle hard before you sip a capfull of the bottle or a large teaspoonful which is the dose.
Shaking the bottle hard is homeopathic succussion and this shaking must be done at least 6 times before sipping a capful of the bottle as prescribed.

'You are just wasting your time and mine in your fruitless endeavour to net in every patient who posts on the ABC.
Wake up man!
Re: Liquid Dilution Arnica- Where to buy
I think it helps all perscribers to have basic information about the patient's case.'
You must understand that if a patient is being treated by a competent prescriber on this forum it is a sheer waste of your time to butt in and paste your standard spiel which detracts from the viewpoint of both the patient and the prescriber.
To my surprise I find that you have repeated your piece twice on this thread and this goes to prove that you do not even read the patient's post before you past your speil. You have now reached the level of a PEST on the ABC as you butt in on every case I have taken in the recent past. This is the reason that impelled me to request you to WAKE UP to the realities of helping anyone in distress who posts his case on the ABC.
You will observe that the majority of patients who post here do not even bother to respond to your request to complete the questionnaire that you offer them.
If you are competent to prescribe please do so if others do not take the case.
Do not butt in otherwise and you just annoy me.
I am glad to note that David Kempson has taken my advice not to bug me and I hope that you will also follow his example.
