Difference between homeopathic aggravations and morbid symptoms
Dear All:I am suffering from trigeminal neuralgia on left face for the last seven years. This causes various types of pains e.g. burning, shooting, cutting, lightning, electric current, boring, continuous, throbbing, pulsating, sometimes here , sometimes there, sometimes of very low intensity, sometimes of unbearable intensity. In short, these pains are known as the worst type of pains known to mankind. The disease is also called 'suicide disease'.
Now I am taking homeopathic treatment. If the drug is correct, after taking a dose, generally there is supposed to be some homeopathic aggravation. In other words, if it is homeopathic aggravation, most probably, the drug is correct. My difficulty is this: how to differentiate aggravation from morbid symptoms, because even if there is no aggravation, morbid symptoms themselves are of unbearable intensity generally.
Kindly help me.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Unfortunately aggravation can happen on the wrong remedy too.
Aggravation may be quite small, if the dose is given in the proper manner and a suitable potency given. If this is difficult to notice, then the only way to tell the remedy is correct is by the improvement.
Patients will aggravate because there are extensive tissue changes in the body, because they are hypersensitive and will react to most remedies, or because they have experienced a signficant amount of suppression of their symptoms over the years (with drugs or herbs or even our potentized medicines). Reactions in such situations will not confirm the correctness of the remedy.
If a remedy is prescribed well, in fact it would be very difficult to know for sure that the reaction is medicinal instead of normal. The appearance of old symptoms from the past however is a very good sign that the medicine is attempting to heal the patient. This is a better and more reliable sign than aggravation.
Aggravation is actually divided into several types of reactions.
There is the pure medicinal effect (primary effect) which is also called a proving (the medicine creates its similar symptoms in the patient).
There is the reaction of the vital force to the medicine (secondary effect) which may be the opposite (push back) or it can be normal functions of the body used to excrete waste, detoxify the body (bowels, sweat, urine etc).
Then there is the action of the healthy vital force itself, to attempt to reverse any tissue changes that have taken place, to repair any damage in the body. This could be severed nerves flaring into life or blood flowing into atrophied parts. This may result in pain and suffering while it takes place.

DEAR BRISBANEHOMOEOPATH;
Thanks for such an enlightening reply. However, my question / confusion is:
How can I differentiate whether the symptoms which are tormenting me after taking a homeopathic dose are 'homeopathic aggravations' or 'morbid symptoms'? In both cases, the symptoms / their location / intensity of suffering / frequency of occcurence of symptoms is same.
Awaiting your guidance please
Prakash

You would only be able to tell by the improvement that follows the aggravation, if the symptoms really do seem exactly the same to you.
Most of my patients will say the aggravation seems different though - symptoms occurring without a normal trigger, symptoms displaying or missing expected characteristics, symptoms occuring at ununsual times of the day or night.
An aggravation should happen within 3 days of taking a remedy. It will peak at about 3-5 days, and should diminish noticeably after 7 days.
This timetable is not a hard and fast rule, and some patients react faster, while others may have prolonged aggravations for various reasons. In acutes for example it is much faster. In long term chronic disease of many years standing, with extensive tissue change, it could be much slower.
