The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Allergies/Eczema/Asthma- 5 month old

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting in this forum, and I'm quite new to homeopathy.

I have a 5 month old son, Henry. He was born on October 1, 2011. At one month of age, he started to develop eczema- from that time it got progressively worse.

Around Christmas time this year, his sister got RSV (respiratory virus)- Henry then developed respiratory symptoms himself. I took him to the hospital several times for both this and the eczema. I was prescribed cortisone creams for the skin and puffers and prednisone for the respiratory symptoms.

This is when I looked into a naturopath. I had been started on Ant Tart 7ch and Sambucas Nigra (to alternate each day). Before I was able to really give this a shot, Henry's respiratory condition flared up again and we landed in the hospital- we were instructed to get off the homeopathic remedies, so we did. Henry tested positive for peanut, wheat and egg allergies- as well as asthma (which I've heard is a fall back diagnosis, since he's really too young to have a proper asthma test).

Our naturopath then tried us on Sulphur, followed by Calcium Carbonica. That hasn't really done much. We were then advised by a family friend to try Ant. Crudum and Viola Tricolor.

Basically, I am confused. His skin is not getting much better (I usually use calendula on his sores).

I understand in homeopathy, like treats like- so from what I can tell, he suits the Ant Tart profile pretty much to a tee. He's a big boy, pale, wakes up in the middle of the night, deep, wet cough and skin outbreaks.

I'm worried to self diagnose, but I feel lost- can anyone provide some feedback for me?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
The reality is, the remedies are the wrong ones. The right remedy will work, the wrong one does not however suitable it might look. Most naturopaths are not specifically trained in homoeopathy, and it takes a lot of training to even just be competent at it much less good. I am pretty sure every Naturopath gives out Sulphur, Calc-carb and Lycopodium to just about everyone. There are over 5000 medicines in our homoeopathic repetoire. The real skill is to be able to find your way to that specific remedy the patient needs. It is not an easy job at all.

The way we choose a remedy is on the peculiar symptoms. General things like Pale, skin outbreaks, being Big - these do not lead you to a remedy.

I will post my intake form for a child. You can fill it in and we can see where we go with this.

1. Describe in detail the main problem - appearance, colour, shape, symptoms, behaviour etc. What happens, when it happens etc.

2. Describe any pains or behaviours associated with the symptoms.

3. Describe anything that makes the problem worse ie. position, temperature, food etc.

4. Describe anything that makes the problem better ie. pain is better for cold bathing or at night in bed.

5. Go through each symptom or problem he/she has, doing the same thing (answering questions 1-4), even if the problem does not seem connected to any others.

6. When did each problem start? What happened around that same time?

7. What is his/her character like? What kinds of fears or anxieties does he/she have? What makes him/her irritable? Flesh out his/her personality.

8. What foods does he/she crave or hate? What drinks does he/she crave or hate? Is he/she sensitive to anything he/she eats or drinks?

9. How does the weather or season affect him/her?

10. How have all his/her milestones gone? Does he/she have any issue with speaking, learning, walking, climbing etc

11. How is he/she with socializing with others?

12. What is his/her bowel habit like? Any problems? Any odours, strange colours or stool shapes?

13. Where does he/she sweat? Does it have a smell or does it stain a particular colour?

14. History of illnesses in his/her life?

15. Has he/she reacted to any vaccines or medical drugs?

16. Problems with sleep? Position he/she sleeps in? Nightmares or any dreams he/she talks about?

17. How is he/she with animals?

18. How is he/she with adults or strangers?

19. What is the family history of illness and disease?

20. What was the pregnancy like? Any odd symptoms or feelings that disappeared once he/she was born?

Thank you SO much for taking the time to reply to my post- I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

1. Describe in detail the main problem - appearance, colour, shape, symptoms, behaviour etc. What happens, when it happens etc.

+he has allergies which lead to asthma (wet, mucousy throat and possibly lung) and facial eczema (red blotches on his cheeks- mostly his right cheek). His coughing and breathing is actually best during the night. The eczema is constant.

2. Describe any pains or behaviours associated with the symptoms.

+He gets quite fussy at times- random times throughout the day. Does not like to be set down much, except in his exersaucer- does not like to lie down on his own. His eczema causes extreme itching, especially on his belly and scalp.

3. Describe anything that makes the problem worse ie. position, temperature, food etc.

+ His allergans: peanuts, wheat, egg or when he's laying down

4. Describe anything that makes the problem better ie. pain is better for cold bathing or at night in bed.

+To cosleep or be held by me (his mother), to suckle (use me as a soother :)), cold bathing

5. Go through each symptom or problem he/she has, doing the same thing (answering questions 1-4), even if the problem does not seem connected to any others.

+ Eczema: itchy, red, oval on cheek and temples, hot. Constant- sometimes worse in evenings or mornings. 2) Itchiness, agitation, distress 3) certain creams, allergans 4) cold bathing makes it better, oatmeal in bath also seems to help

+ Asthma/RSV Remnants: Mucousy chest, failure to get rid of the mucous, non productive wet coughs, sometimes weezing

6. When did each problem start? What happened around that same time?

+ Eczema started around 1 month of age- nothing stands out as happening at the same time

+ Asthma/RSV Remnants: Started around Christmas, he had an ear infection and RSV (undiagnosed- just assumed by Dr.)- his sibling had RSV other sibling had pneumonia

7. What is his/her character like? What kinds of fears or anxieties does he/she have? What makes him/her irritable? Flesh out his/her personality.

+ He is a happy infant, with a big smile- especially considering his apparent discomfort. He seems to hate being left alone- especially by me. His itchiness makes him irritable. He loves being approached by his overzealous brother and sister and is a good sport about it.

8. What foods does he/she crave or hate? What drinks does he/she crave or hate? Is he/she sensitive to anything he/she eats or drinks?

+ Breastmilk? Not introduced to solids yet.

9. How does the weather or season affect him/her?

+ He seems to love the summer weather we are now having in Ontario 20 degrees.

10. How have all his/her milestones gone? Does he/she have any issue with speaking, learning, walking, climbing etc

+ He is on par for rolling- that's the main milestone we've gotten to so far

11. How is he/she with socializing with others?

+ Seems to like people, loves being held- but always prefers being held by me (mom)

12. What is his/her bowel habit like? Any problems? Any odours, strange colours or stool shapes?

+ He has a messy diaper every 2 days roughly. They are usually quite foul in smell and just messy- usual for his age

13. Where does he/she sweat? Does it have a smell or does it stain a particular colour?

+ His head seems to sweat at night

14. History of illnesses in his/her life?

+ RSV/ear infection at 3 months of age

15. Has he/she reacted to any vaccines or medical drugs?

+ No reactions that I know of

16. Problems with sleep? Position he/she sleeps in? Nightmares or any dreams he/she talks about?

+ Seems to like to be on his side to sleep (slightly) or on back. He won't sleep through the night yet

17. How is he/she with animals?

+ Hasn't come into contact with any

18. How is he/she with adults or strangers?

+ Seems okay to be with others- but would always prefer me (mom)

19. What is the family history of illness and disease?

+ Pretty healthy family- no allergies that we know of or asthma

20. What was the pregnancy like? Any odd symptoms or feelings that disappeared once he/she was born?

+ Good pregnancy, I don't remember having any odd symptoms that I didn't have with the other two children
