frustrated toddler

Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some advice around my 14 month old toddler.
He has suffered from food intolerances, but we have sorted out his diet so with a few food plus Neocate, he is fine.
Lately he has started waking up screaming at night, sometimes up to 4 times per night. And during the day he is incredibly active, pacing around the house, but never happy with anything. He will start playing with a toy and then just throw it, and is constantly making whinging noises. He puts his arms up to be picked up, and when I do so, he wants to get down. When I put him down, he wants to be picked up again. Sigh!
I can't see any signs of new teeth, or infected ears, or a sore throat.
Does anyone have some suggestions for how I can help my little man?
