Mixed potencies of same remedy?

When looking over homeopathic products at various vendors on the net, I occasionally see products that contain mixed potencies of the same remedy; a product might contain 6x, 30x and 100x. Claims that such mixed potencies "act on different levels" might be made.

To any experienced homeopaths, do you ever make use of mixed potencies, or has it been a practice in homeopathy past or present?

Thanks for any responses.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
As far as I am aware mixed remedies in one tablet should all be the same potency - LOW say 3x 0r 6x.

it is possible to use different remedies in LOW potency - 3x - 6x on the same day . One am one pm .

Would tend to steer clear of widely differing potencies in the same tablet.

Different remedies with different potencies is one thing, which could be therapeutically acceptable in some cases.

BUT different potencies of THE SAME REMEDY, in one single dose --- COULD CREATE A MIRACLE ... ?

If Arnica-6c and Arnica-30c can be mixed in the same one dose (maybe possible for some prescribers) ... who knows, the patient might have a good flooding hair growth while sleeping for weeks together.

Personally, I think, the mixing of potency remedies (not triturated) should not be done.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't include this bit of information in my original question because I know most here are not proponents of combination remedies. But I've seen mixed potencies of the same remedy in several combination remedies. I can't be too negative about combinations, which are more commonly available than single remedies, because I'd never have had any interest in homeopathy had I not picked up a combo cold remedy on a whim, and it did improve my cold symptoms.

But combination remedies often contain two or three potencies of the same remedy, and of several different remedies. A combination cold remedy I have now contains 10x, 20x, and 30x of three remedies, plus single potencies of others. It contains the three potencies of Gels and Aconite.

Who knows what a mixture of Arnica 6c and Arnica 30c might do. It's bound to have some efficacy as I can't see how the different potencies would antidote each other. Is it entirely unreasonable that a quicker acting, then a longer acting potency of the same remedy (taken together) might be of benefit for some conditions?

A couple of additional comments. Combination remedies are much more common in the US than single remedies, so far people are likely to try a combo as an introduction to homeopathy. Combo remedies are often sold in health food stores and some pharmacies that carry no single remedies.

And the mixed potencies of the same remedies I've seen are always of lower potecies, 3x to 30x, and not some low x or c potency combined with something 200 or stronger.

If you use a single remedy, you know what to expect;you can choose the next medicine with confidence from one of the complimentaries, collaterals,if need be, and can judge the efficacy of the medicine by following the well laid down concepts of follow up.

What will you do if a combination medicine, initially works, and the next time, it proves to be useless?

If it happens with a single remedy, you have many options open like increasing the potency, looking for a complimentary, intercurrent etc, etc.

I don't want to go into the many details already discussed. If you are serious about your health search for 'combinations' and read all the threads.

bandarbabu2000,

Thanks for your reply. I don't dispute what you say as I am very new to homeopathy. However, the only combinations I've used were for cold/flu symtoms and smoking cessation. I received some benefit from each.

But I also think that classical homeopaths are lousy marketers. If they want more people to realize the benefits of homeopathy, and more people to train as homeopaths in the future, they need something to introduce people to it. At least in the US, I bet more people develop an interest in homeopathy because they initially tried some combination remedy than by any other route. It's a much simpler introduction than immediately being hit by all the dos and don'ts and seemingly esoteric philosophy that most won't take time to understand.

And, the companies that produce the homeopathy remedies are offering more and more combination remedies, at least in the US. I expect that trend will continue and escalate, then trained homeopaths will find new patients trickling in because they'd tried some combination remedy and realized benefits.

Hi Will

The situation is same in India too. There are many combination medicines available here too across the counter.

They do sometimes palliate, but will not hold in the long run.

I tried combinations sometimes, just to understand their action, but, I am convinced that the cardinal principles of similar medicine, single medicine, minimum dose are more beneficial and easier to use.

Is it possible to prescribe different pottencies in the same order: for example: Causticum 1m every 2 weeks, and Causticum 30c every day.

No you should not do that, because you run a risk of aggravating or even antidoting the remedy's effects. Why would you even want to do that? The right remedy, at the right potency, will take care of the complaints.

Every potency does something different. What the patient needs done for them, decides you on the potency. Giving a second potency will not only confuse things, but can create various negative effects as well.

Essentially this is like taking two medicines together - you will have no idea which one is doing what, and then cannot adjust dosage with any confidence.
