help-how to determine constitutional type between medorrhinum, nat mur

As a child and pre-adolesence I seem to fit Medo. As an adult, it seems Nat Mur fits more closely. I'm relatively new to homeopathy and find conflicting applications. From what I understand, a person is born with his constitutional type, but isn't possible that prolonged environmental situations can alter the person mentally and physically to such a degree that they can end up with a different constitution. Any insight would be most appreciated. Thank You

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I think I found my answer. For anyone that reads this, don't waste your money buying any homeopathic books categorizing constitutionals according to personality types.

I found an interesting article in The British Homoeopathic Journal Vol. 87, July 1998 regarding the question of 'Constitutional' Remedies. -I should have read this before purchasing the book. ;)

The life and ailments of modern day man is too complex to be covered by one single remedy. We have many layers and it would seem unreasonable to expect a single remedy to cover them all.

So a bow to the experienced professionals that have devoted so much of their time to the complex study of homeopathy, and that have volunteered their time to assist those writing to this forum. I have just begun to read some of the books and am already amazed at the delicate balance and fine handling remedies require. Wow! so much to learn.

A person is born with a particular constitutional trait, that is right.

It is right too that as he grows up, many influences add over it, and he no longer presents the underlying constitutional symptoms clearly.

To explain to laymen, I find the example of onion very apt.( with apologies to Banerjea, who told about it first)

You peel the top layer of the onion. You do this in homeopathy by removing the superficial symptoms first, by selecting a medicine for that particular set of symptoms, that are dominating. Once, the remedy removes those symptoms, it is no longer useful, as the second layer is exposed now.

A few symptoms lying dormant in the patient, now come to the fore, and a suitable medicine, for the symptoms, presented now, has to be selected, which will be different from the first one.

Once this medicine removes that layer, the next layer is exposed, and again a suitable medicine for that layer is to be given.

If the layers are limited to 3 to 4, one can eventually reach his constitutional remedy in about 2 to 3 years of being taken care by a competent homeopath.

After that, if he doesn't fall prey to fresh obnoxious influences, the constitutional remedy will always help him, what ever may be the minor problem he faces.

It is not as easy as it sounds. The homeopath has to be really good both in philosophy and materia medica knowledge, and should have good experience in handling such cases.

It is not correct to give a deep acting medicine, assuming it to be the constitutional one or in the belief that 'it will clear the misms.'

That is why I always oppose treatments like take one dose of Thuja 200, and start the next medicine after 24 hours.

This is loose prescribing, to say the least.

Please let me know how do you think the medicine should be prescribed. Specially if somebody is treating very chronic cases becasue they need deep action specially if problem is mental like autism or mental retardation.
Another question do you know medicines covers the symptoms that someone dwells in happy past?
