Pollen allergy case not responding

I have a case of pollen allergy and is not responding to well selected remedies. Will appreciate any comments.

Symptoms are:
Itching in eyes with uncontrollable urge to rub them
After a lot of rubbing the eyes get blood red and sore
Rinsing with cold or warm water aggravates the itching
Semi blocked nose throughout the day
Blocked nose at night causing mouth breathing
Sneezing soon after waking up in the morning with lots of clear coryza
Mental irritability during the symptoms

Puls, Nat-M & Phos have not resolved the case.

Thanks Simone.

The correct remedy provides relief within 1-2 doses, be it chronic or acute unless severe pathology is involved.

Nux-V is a close alternate but its not coming up in repertorization and anything outside of repertoriation is usually trial & error.

Let me explore the case further to see if some crucial info has been missed out.

Thanks for sharing the info. Which book and which homeopath are you referring to.

From what you have written, it looks your homeopath didn't prescribe for the acute, he went for chronic, most likely constitutional and I won't be surprised if these were not your only symptoms which were bothering and got resolved. Such symptoms are indicative of a miasm which is never restricted to pollen allergy. Even so, I will be amazed if you didn't experience any relief after 1-2 doses.

I had great success with acute prescription of pollen allergy patients but maybe this one requires constitutional prescribing.

Hi Fitness. Could you share the rest of the case. My experience is that focusing purely on the local complaint is not particularly successful for chronic cases.

I imagine there must be more to this case. All of my allergy cases tend to have a fairly vivid general picture as well. Miasm is important here as well and that needs to be determined from the history.

Also, my experience of repertorizing a chronic complaint purely as an acute, and this is reflected in Hahnemann's advice in the Organon very clearly, is that it covers up something that helps point you towards the miasmatic/chronic remedy, and can make finding that remedy much more difficult.

Evocationer, you are right. It was my mistake to assume that it was acute and just a recent phenomenon. I am already asking complete case details from the patient. I started working only on the given symptoms instead of asking more.

A lesson that I keep learning again & again, whenever I do shortcuts I fail!

You live & you learn.

Heheh yeah it is an ongoing process. We need to never rest on our laurels - something we all learn eventually.

Short-cuts in homoeopathy (at least as far as chronic prescribing is concerned) is an almost sure way to fail. Acute prescribing, when it is a genuine acute, can be a little different, but even then without individualizing and looking for a current (acute) totality it can be hit and miss.
